In London
Time to experiment with adding some pictures to these
ramblings, so let’s have a try with some taken today. Firstly, here’s Lover’s
Walk in Finchley, as mentioned in my last post, with its old curving walls…
Next a couple from the path which follows Dollis Brook
upstream to High Barnet: you could well be surprised that all this is still
very much a part of London, half a dozen miles from the bustle of Oxford
Street…
…and finally a glimpse of Totteridge Green. Think
countryside – but then realise that just beyond this rural scene is a sterile
suburban street and a modern school:
That seems to work!
Today’s little stroll came to just over nine miles, taking
advantage of a dry, if rather grey day – and it was comforting from a socks
point of view, as you will see!
Sock it to me
I don’t think I had fully appreciated the importance of socks
– until last Friday, when I had to keep interrupting my stroll to deal with
some uncomfortable rubbing. I had set out wearing substitute socks instead of
my trusty Bridgedales, and I paid the price. “Merino mix” - pah rubbish! I
binned them ceremoniously when I got home.
When I bought the boots, I was recommended to Bridgedale
Trekker Woolfusion socks, rightly so despite the high price. It goes without
saying that they are so good Bridgedale has discontinued them – typical – so I
have ordered a couple of pairs of their supposed new improved replacement, and
we shall see.
Conclusion – socks are another item where any economy may be
false!
